Base64 Encoder

Turn text into Base64 and back again, or encode a whole file. Handles every language and emoji correctly, and offers the URL-safe alphabet when you need it. Nothing you enter leaves this page.

How it works

Base64 rewrites binary data using only 64 safe text characters, so it can travel through systems that only accept text — email bodies, JSON fields, data URLs. Your text is first converted to UTF-8 bytes (which is why emoji and non-Latin scripts survive the round trip), then those bytes are regrouped into the Base64 alphabet by this page's own codec.

The URL-safe variant swaps + and / for - and _ and drops the = padding, so the output can sit inside a URL or filename without extra escaping. Decoding accepts both alphabets and ignores whitespace, so wrapped or pasted output still decodes.

Say it plainly: Base64 is not encryption. Anyone holding the output can decode it in one line — no key involved. Use it for transport, never for secrecy.

Limitation: encoding inflates data by about a third, so a 3 MB file becomes roughly 4 MB of text. Decoding only produces readable text when the original bytes were text; decoding the Base64 of an image, for instance, gives bytes this page can't display.
